Patrushev pointed out the importance of the Northern Sea Route for Russia's sovereignty

Development of the Northern Sea Route and the Krylov State Research Center (KSRC) are mandatory to ensure Russia's technological independence. This was stated by Nikolay Patrushev, Assistant to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Maritime Board, at a meeting at the KSCC in St. Petersburg on December 3.

Development of the Krylov Center is considered as one of the fundamental elements of ensuring the development of the industry, maintaining the technological sovereignty of the country, creation of new generation ships, development of transport corridors, including the Northern Sea Route, development of hydrocarbon and mineral resources of the Russian shelf and the World Ocean," he said.

According to the presidential aide, the results of the center's work are the basis for the production of the present and further projects for the development of shipbuilding.

The event was held on the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and was also attended by Alexander Gutsan, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the North-Western Federal District, and Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg.

Prior to that, on November 6, Putin said that the Russian economy should develop on the basis of its own technologies and breakthrough solutions. According to the Russian leader, the creation of powerful and modern ships is the embodiment of Russia's industrial, scientific, personnel and technological potential.

Earlier, on August 27, the Russian presidential aide said that the U.S. and Western countries are trying to limit Russia's access to maritime resources, as well as to deprive Russia of the opportunity to use maritime transport communications.

Before that, on August 19, Patrushev reported on the importance of the Northern Sea Route is growing in the context of international instability and anti-Russian sanctions. He emphasized that the importance of the Northern Sea Route as the shortest route between Europe and Asia continues to grow.
