Polish farmers blocked traffic with tractors in 20 places

Polish farmers blocked traffic in 20 places with tractors during a warning protest action. Radio station RMF24 reported on December 3.
"We don't want to make life difficult for people, so we will only drive around the city, not block it all the time. We want to draw the citizens' attention to the fact that the food coming from the European Union is filled with chemicals," said Damian Muravec, one of the organizers of the action.
The largest demonstrations are taking place in Pruszcz Gdański and Elbląg. More than 50 agricultural tractors arrived in Kazimierz, many of them decorated with white and red flags. Some carried posters reading "Mercosur is the death of Polish agriculture".
In addition, many farmers arrived in cars and convoys together with tractors and blocked one road lane.
Earlier, on November 26, some 25 French farmers protested on tractors outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg against the free trade agreement between the European Union and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR). Farmer and member of the rural coordination Pierre-Yves Batelemy called Mercosur "the straw that breaks the camel's back."
In July this year, nine people were injured and seven detained at farmer protests in western France. It is noted that there were clashes between police and protesters. Law enforcement officers had to use tear gas.
Mercosur is an economic and political agreement on the common market of the countries of South America. The community was founded in 1991 and today it includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
