To avoid hair loss, the expert advises adding iron to the diet, as its deficiency causes anemia and negatively affects blood circulation in hair follicles. Karina Avramova, an endocrinologist-dietitologist, specialist in preventive and anti-aging medicine, told Izvestia on December 3 about how to maintain healthy hair and nails in winter with the help of dietary supplements.
"B vitamins are involved in the synthesis of keratin, making hair stronger and thicker, and nails less brittle. The optimal dose of B vitamins is selected individually depending on the needs of the body," Avramova noted.
According to her, to prevent hair loss you need iron, as its deficiency leads to anemia and deterioration of blood supply to hair follicles. In addition, it is better to choose supplements in the form of iron bisglycinate, as they are less irritating to the stomach.
Calcium, magnesium and zinc play a key role in strengthening nails and preventing hair loss. The expert recommended choosing supplements that include these minerals to support cellular metabolism.
The expert also recommends adding vitamin D and omega-3 to your diet, especially during the winter months, as they promote scalp health and help avoid hair breakage. Avramova also advises moisturizing hair regularly with oils such as argan oil and using hand creams containing keratin to protect nails from drying out.
