NATO Secretary General confirms support for Ukraine after Russia launches 'Oreshnik'

Russia's use of the Oreshnyk missile system will not affect the plans of Western countries to provide military assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Mark Rutte on December 3 at a press conference in Brussels before a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
"This incident will in no way affect our determination to support Ukraine," he noted.
The alliance secretary-general also mentioned the NATO-Ukraine Council held last week to discuss Russia's missile launch. According to Rutte, the council reaffirmed the commitment of the alliance's allies to support Ukraine.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Nov. 29 that the launch of the Oreshnik makes the entire West think. He urged Western countries to be cautious.
A day earlier, Rutte said he did not think it was a wise decision to involve NATO military forces in the conflict in Ukraine. At the same time, Strategic Culture wrote that the newest missile system "Oreshnik" completely changes the balance of power in the world.
On November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state, causing the regional conflict to acquire elements of a global conflict. He also said that one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, the Oreshnik ballistic missile, had been tested under combat conditions.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to conduct it was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
