- In the State Duma after the announcement of new Washington sanctions pointed to the collapse of the U.S. economy

The policy of incumbent U.S. President Joe Biden has led to the collapse of his country's economy, while at the same time, before the end of his term in office, he is trying to do more harm to Russia by imposing new sanctions against it. Alexander Tolmachev, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy, pointed this out in a conversation with Izvestia on December 3.
The expansion of the sanctions list was announced the day before by Jake Sullivan, Assistant to the President of the United States. He emphasized that the administration of the current president will introduce new restrictions before the end date of powers on January 20.
"Sanctions, the count of which goes into the thousands, are no longer news to us. What may be news is a sane and measured stance from Washington, which is the hope for next year. And Biden's team, there is no doubt, has prepared terrible surprises for the whole world 'under the Christmas tree'," Tolmachev commented.
The politician added that the scenario in which Biden intensifies attempts to pressure Russia was expected immediately after the victory of Republican Donald Trump in the US presidential election. In addition, the interlocutor of the publication noted, Biden is now clearly claiming to be one of the most unpopular American presidents in history.
"And his own economy collapsed, and the fire in the center of Europe ignited, and now he continues to throw wood into it," the deputy explained.
Earlier, on November 21, the United States took additional measures to limit Russia's use of the international financial system. The United States imposed sanctions against the first Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia Vladimir Chistyukhin and Dmitry Tulin. Gazprombank also fell under the sanctions.
On the same day, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that the Western sanctions will not lead to restrictions on Russia's foreign trade. According to him, all restrictions by Western countries first of all hit them. The next day, on November 22, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was considering retaliatory measures to the U.S. sanctions against Gazprombank.
Western countries stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
