Kremlin calls new US aid package for Ukraine 'pouring oil on the fire'


The US administration is pursuing its own goals and "adding oil to the fire" by announcing a new package of military aid to Ukraine. This statement was made by Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov on 3 December.
The day before, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the United States would provide Ukraine with a new $725 million military aid package.
"The current US administration is pursuing its own goals. <...> The administration is doing everything possible in order to further add oil to the fire," he said at a briefing.
Peskov also emphasized that subsequent military aid packages will not affect the course of events and dynamics on the front lines.
On December 2, the Pentagon disclosed the composition of a new $725 million military aid package to Ukraine. The list includes several sections. Thus, as part of air defense (air defense), Ukrainian troops received three Patriot, Avenger, and HAWK batteries and related ammunition, air surveillance radars, mobile laser-guided missile systems, and more.
The American president's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said on the same day that the US plans to supply the Ukrainian army with thousands of missiles and shells by the end of January. In addition, President Joe Biden said that he planned to reinforce Ukraine with "a series of additional measures".
On November 28, the first deputy head of the Federation Council's committee on international affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov, said that the delivery of a new aid package to Ukraine would lead to an increase in escalation.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
