"Avtotor" will start production of electric car of its development in 2025

Kaliningrad plant Avtotor will start production of a small electric car in the II-III quarters of 2025. The first pre-production copies will be produced by the end of 2024 on the basis of Moscow Polytechnic. Alexander Sorokin, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Avtotor Holding", reports the correspondent of "Izvestia".

"We have jointly with Moscow Polytechnic developed a compact electric car. It is now undergoing tests. We plan to start serial production in the II-III quarter of next year," Sorokin said at a forum dedicated to the development of electric transportation in the Russian Federation, which is held at Politech.

The top manager did not specify the technical characteristics of the new model and the terms of its appearance on the market. The approximate cost of the electric car is 1 million rubles, but this amount does not include the cost of the battery, which will issue a lease.

"The battery, of course, will be, but the buyer will not pay for it, but will pay small payments during recharges. Once the battery can't take more than 70% of a charge, it will be replaced with a new one. The used battery can be used in stationary energy sources," Sorokin explained.

Earlier this year, Valery Gorbunov, the head of the auto holding's board of directors, said that the electric car is being created on the basis of a technologically independent platform, and a high level of localization is expected - more than 90%. Most of the components, including critical components, will be produced at Avtotor's new plants. The electric cars will be two- and four-seater, modification for immobile citizens is planned.

On August 28, Avtotor started production of a test batch of electric motors at the new plant. The production capacity of the plant is designed to produce 60 thousand electric motors per year. The range includes motors with power from 23 kW to 140 kW (31-190 hp) for various types of passenger electric vehicles. Later motors for small electric vehicles, lifting equipment and boats may be added. "Avtotor" intends to master the production of blocks in which the electric motor, gearbox and inverter are mounted.
