Putin instructed the FMBA to consider the creation of a register of Russian athletes

Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA of Russia) to consider the creation of a federal register of the health of Russian athletes. This follows from a document published on the Kremlin website.

"FMBA of Russia to take additional measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of medical and biological support for Russian athletes, including persons engaged in adaptive sports, providing, among other things, for the creation of a national center for sports medicine, <...> as well as to consider the creation of a federal register of the health of Russian athletes," the text reads.

The head of state also instructed to submit proposals to amend the legislation if necessary. The relevant report is instructed to be submitted by February 1, 2025, then once every six months. The head of FMBA Veronika Skvortsova has been appointed responsible.

In addition, Putin instructed to provide in strategic and program documents in the field of physical culture and sports an indicator characterizing the level of physical development of citizens. It is specified that this indicator should be determined, including taking into account the number of citizens who have undergone medical examinations and met the standards of tests of the All-Russian complex "Ready for Labor and Defense".

Earlier, on October 17, Putin paid a working visit to Ufa and opened six sports facilities in Bashkiria, Perm Krai, Nizhny Novgorod, Tula and Sakhalin regions. The head of state emphasized that all citizens of Russia - adults and children - should be involved in sports and it is important to provide them with the opportunity to exercise regularly.

Prior to that, on August 10, the President drew attention to the fact that Russia is famous for "strong, victorious traditions of the physical culture movement". In addition, the country pays much attention to the construction of modern and accessible sports infrastructure.
