Iranian Foreign Ministry says possible meeting with Russia, Turkey and Qatar on Syria


Senior representatives of Russia, Iran, Turkey and Qatar may hold a meeting on the situation in Syria in Doha. This was announced by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on December 2.
It is specified that the conversation, according to preliminary data, may take place as early as December 7-8.
"It is likely that next week Doha will host a meeting with the participation of Qatar, Iran, Turkey and Russia to discuss the situation in Syria," RT Arabic quoted Araqchi as saying, citing Iranian media.
Earlier, on December 2, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also announced a meeting on Syria in Doha. According to him, it is very important for Syria that Turkey and Iran "sincerely express their views on the Syrian issue." In addition, he said that the authorities do not want "the continuation of civil war, the destruction of cities with bombs."
On the same day, the Syrian army's General Command said that the Arab Republic's military, together with Russia's Air and Space Forces (VKS), eliminated more than 400 terrorists in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. The militaries of the two countries continue to carry out missile and air strikes on the positions of Islamist groups. On December 1, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad emphasized that the Arab Republic is capable of defeating terrorists with the help of allies and friends and will do it with the language of force.
Prior to that, on November 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held telephone talks with Fidan, during which they discussed the current situation in Syria. It was specified that the parties confirmed the need to coordinate joint actions to stabilize the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR). Then they also concluded that the provisions of the Astana format should be involved in this case.
On November 28, the Syrian Ministry reported that terrorist groups launched a major attack in Aleppo and Idlib, and the Syrian Army began to repel it, inflicting serious damage to the militants' equipment and manpower.
