Monument to test pilot Chkalov unveiled in Moscow

The grand opening of the monument to the legendary test pilot Valery Chkalov took place in Moscow. The ceremony was held on December 2 in the park "Khodynskoye Pole".

The great-grandson of the pilot Igor Chkalov also attended the ceremony. He noted that his great-grandfather was a "man of achievement" and also pointed to the motivating power of his feats.

"We have actually realized a long-standing dream, in which we wanted to reflect Valery Pavlovich not as a legend, but as, above all, a man who loved what he was doing, what he was striving for," he emphasized.

The sculptor, People's Artist of the Russian Federation Salavat Shcherbakov, who created the monument, called the main features of Chkalov's image, which he sought to create, "intelligence, strength, courage and even cheerfulness of the people".

At the end of the ceremony, the guests laid flowers at the new monument.

Earlier, on November 12, a monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Kuzma Grebennik was unveiled in Lugansk in the Park of Border Guards. The ceremony was attended by the first deputy head of the Russian presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, and the head of the LNR, Leonid Pasechnik. After the grand opening of the monument to Grebennik, flowers were laid at the memorial in memory of him and his feat.
