A 240-millimeter self-propelled mortar "Tulpan" of the Vostok group of troops has stopped a counterattack by Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) militants in the zone of the special military operation (SMO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 3.

After the unit received data from scouts, it opened an aimed fire on a group of marines of Ukrainian militants who were trying to break through the positions of Russian servicemen.

Thanks to the precise actions of the Tulpan mortar calculation, the enemy lost the effect of surprise and was forced to retreat.

"We work with large mines, as now our front is shifting to get us farther away. We worked on enemy platoon strongholds, firing points and well concreted dugouts," said a senior officer of the mortar battery with the call sign Selenga.

As a result of coordinated actions of artillery and assault units of the Vostok group of troops, the enemy lost up to 50 servicemen, seven vehicles and three armored combat vehicles.

Earlier, on November 20, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that a mortar crew of paratroopers of the Dnipro troop group destroyed an AFU observation post on the right bank of the Dnieper River in the Zaporizhzhya region near Energodar.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
