The total amount of military assistance provided to Ukraine by the US authorities since the beginning of President Joe Biden 's term amounted to more than $62 billion, the Pentagon said on December 2.

"The United States has allocated more than $62 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of [President Joe] Biden's administration, including about $61.4 billion since February 24, 2022," the statement said.

The statement also listed the weapons systems, firearms, tanks, BMPs, anti-personnel mines and so on that have been transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

Earlier in the day, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said during a telephone conversation with the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Rustem Umerov, that arms deliveries to Kiev would increase. It is specified that during the call, the heads of the ministries also discussed the situation in Ukraine and agreed to "remain in close contact".

At the same time, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the USA would provide Ukraine with a new package of military aid worth $725m.

On 28 November, it was reported that the administration of incumbent US President Joe Biden was developing a new $725m aid package for Ukraine, within the framework of which it planned to provide various anti-tank weapons from the US stockpile.

In his turn, the first deputy head of the Federation Council's international affairs committee, Vladimir Dzhabarov, said that the delivery of the new aid package to Ukraine would lead to an increase in escalation.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, the launch of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24 February 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
