To combat low-quality machine oils, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and major producers of technical fluids intend to create an industry standard for these products. This measure is long overdue, as the level of counterfeiting in some categories of oils has reached 50%, and there are no laboratories to check the quality of products.

"Until March 2022, Russian producers of technical fluids when certifying products focused on foreign standardization and licensing systems API, ACEA, and their products were tested on foreign stands," Nikolai Kuznetsov, general director of the Institute of Oil and Gas Technology Initiatives (INTI), told Izvestia.

However, now the work with foreign centers has stopped due to sanctions and has lost its relevance. INTI together with its founders, interested companies and state authorities is developing its own standard analogous to the American API. Requirements for products and methods of quality determination are being worked out, taking into account domestic regulatory requirements.

"The planned date of approval of the standard is the first half of 2025," said Nikolay Kuznetsov.

In addition, from September 2025 will be introduced mandatory labeling of technical oils, which will block the sale of counterfeit products that do not have permits.
