Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized at the Congress of Young Scientists on December 2 the need to take all measures to prevent the Caspian Sea from shoaling.

"I don't know if we can, even by joining forces, do something, because nature is such a powerful system, but nevertheless, everything that depends on us, we must do," he noted.

Putin emphasized that he had already discussed the problem of shoaling of the Caspian Sea with Presidents of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan Ilham Aliyev and Kasym-Jomart Tokayev and agreed with the Azerbaijani leader on joint work in this direction.

According to the President, he has already instructed the Russian government to implement the action program.

Earlier, on November 27, it was reported that Russian scientists are concerned about the shoaling of the Caspian Sea. The decline in water level in the water area has been observed since the mid-1990s, experts say. To date, the indicator has reached 28.73 meters below the level of the World Ocean. Similar values were recorded in 1977. But then the volume of water in the Caspian Sea gradually increased. Whether the indicator will return to normal now, scientists cannot say.
