Armenian Foreign Ministry says ready to cooperate with the ICC

Armenia is ready to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to strengthen international legal norms. This was stated by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at a meeting with ICC President Tomoko Akane on December 2.
"Minister Mirzoyan emphasized Armenia's readiness to participate in international cooperation efforts aimed at upholding international legal norms and ensuring the rule of law," the Armenian Foreign Ministry's official website reads.
According to the press service of the diplomatic mission, the sides discussed the challenges facing the international justice system, noting the important role of strengthening independent judicial mechanisms for proper response to large-scale crises, as well as for cooperation to ensure peace.
The report says that during the meeting the sides also discussed the progress of the work on improvement of the national legislation in accordance with the provision of the Rome Statute to regulate aspects of the assistance procedure with the court.
In October 2023, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturian approved the ratification of the Rome Statute of the ICC. In his turn, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the ICC by the Armenian parliament, noting that Moscow will have additional questions for the current leadership of Yerevan after such a step. Armenia officially became a member of the ICC on February 1, 2024.
