A criminal case of negligence has been opened in the Transbaikal Territory after a fire destroyed a school in Byrka station of Olovyanninsky district. About it the regional Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of Russia reports in its Telegram-channel on Monday, December 2.

"According to the investigation, as a result of improper performance of official duties of responsible persons who did not conduct timely inspections of electrical appliances and wiring, other communications of the school building, there was its fire, which led to the destruction of the premises," - stated in the message of the agency.

A criminal case under part 1 of article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Negligence" has been instituted. A fire-technical examination has been appointed, the school management and its employees are being questioned. Investigators are also studying documents that may help in the investigation.

The fire in the school occurred on November 30, 2024, the building was almost destroyed. The cause of the fire, preliminary, was a short circuit or a malfunction in the furnace heating. No one was injured.

As specified by IA ChitaMedia, a total of 54 children were studying at the school in Byrki. Now they, as well as the teachers, go to school in the neighboring village of Mirny.
