An expert spoke about thyroid diseases

Thyroid diseases can cause various health problems, as the thyroid gland plays an important role in the regulation of metabolism and energy in the body. Andrei Isaev, founder of the DNAOM laboratory, told Izvestia on December 3 about the causes of the disease.
According to the expert, hypothyroidism, i.e. a decrease in the level of hormones produced by the thyroid gland, can lead to a slowdown in metabolism, which causes fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, hair loss and other symptoms. In addition, an increase in thyroid gland size can cause aesthetic defects as well as compress nearby tissues in the trachea and esophagus, which in turn can complicate breathing and swallowing functions.
Some of the most severe thyroid ailments are those that can significantly affect overall health and require serious therapy.
"Malignant tumor of the thyroid gland is a nodular formation that forms in the glandular tissue of the organ. Patients with thyroid cancer may experience the following symptoms: enlargement of the gland or one of its lobes, a feeling of a lump in the throat, difficulty swallowing, breathing, dry cough, voice hoarseness," notes Isaev.
He claims there are autoimmune diseases such as Graves' disease, which causes hyperthyroidism, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which leads to hypothyroidism. Autoimmune reactions can cause chronic inflammation and destruction of thyroid tissue, which in turn impairs thyroid function.
"All these diseases require careful attention and timely seeking medical help. Early diagnosis and adequate treatment can significantly improve the patient's prognosis and quality of life," the expert specified.
There are several factors that can worsen the state of health in thyroid diseases. For example, the lack of iodine, which is necessary for the production of thyroid hormones. Insufficient iodine intake can cause hypothyroidism or lead to an increase in the size of the thyroid. In addition, poor diet, vitamin and mineral deficiencies can adversely affect thyroid function. Smoking also has a negative impact in thyroid abnormalities, as it can exacerbate the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
"If thyroid disease is not diagnosed in time or not properly treated, it can lead to a worsening of the condition," Isaev summarized.
Earlier, on November 26, the therapist Oksana Pivovarova, a professor at the Department of Therapy of the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, told Izvestia about the causes of hyperhidrosis. As a rule, diffuse hyperhidrosis indicates pathology of endocrine organs and other systems, such as hyperfunction of the thyroid gland.
