As of December 1, Russian fishermen harvested 557.7 thousand tons of sardine ivasi. The All-Russian Association of Fishery Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE) told Izvestia, thus exceeding by 2.5% the record figure of last year, when 544,000 tons were harvested.

"Sardine Ivassi has become Russia's second largest resource in terms of production. Now it is second only to pollock. At the same time, almost 20 years of fishing of Ivassi was not conducted and resumed only in 2018. According to scientists' forecasts, high catches will continue in the coming years. Already for 2025, the recommended volume of cavasi production is almost 1.2 million tons, which is especially important in view of the tasks to increase consumption and export of fish products, which the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putinhas set for the industry," the association said.

They also noted that in Russia Ivassi is used to produce a wide range of products - from canned and preserves to a useful omega-3 supplement. Despite a significant increase in the cost of production, fishermen's prices for frozen sardine ivasi on the Russian market are stable: 86 rubles per 1 kg (both in November 2023 and November 2024), emphasized the WARPE.

In addition, according to the study WARPE, the potential of Russian exports in the absence of internal restrictions on exports of cavasi by 2030 - about 536 thousand tons, which is 1.9 times more than in 2023.

Earlier, on August 19, it was reported that the Russian government allocated more than 700 million rubles for the development of the fishery complex in a number of regions. The corresponding order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Prior to that, on April 8, the head of Rosrybolovstvo Ilya Shestakov told the President that in 2023 the rates of levy for fishermen were raised, due to which the budget revenue increased tenfold. According to him, 80% of this was directed to the regions.
