The DNR Prosecutor's Office sent a criminal case against a Georgian mercenary to court

The Prosecutor's Office of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) approved the indictment and sent the criminal case against Giorgi Gigauri, a 34-year-old Georgian mercenary who fought on the side of the Ukrainian army, to the Supreme Court of the DNR for consideration in absentia. This was reported by the press service of the agency on December 2.

It was specified that he was charged in absentia under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict"). He was also put on an international wanted list and arrested in absentia.

According to the investigation, from April to May 2022, Gigauri voluntarily joined the Georgian National Legion (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), where he underwent military training, was provided with firearms, ammunition, uniforms and special equipment.

From May to June 2022, he took part in combat operations on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) as part of the "Caucasian Legion".

Gigauri also received a reward of 178 thousand rubles for mercenarism.

"The criminal case was sent to the Supreme court of the Donetsk People's Republic for consideration on the merits", - stated in the message of the press service of the Prosecutor's office of the DNR.

Earlier, on November 29, the prosecutor's office of the DNR sent to court a criminal case against the Georgian mercenary Ramazi Zhangidze. He was put on an international wanted list and the court remanded him in absentia. Zhangidze received remuneration equivalent to more than 7.1 million rubles for his participation in combat operations.
