Fitzo calls statements of new EU leadership in Kiev uncoordinated

The statements made by the new head of the European Council, António Costa, and Kai Kallas, who replaced Josep Borrell as head of European diplomacy, during their visit to Kiev were not agreed within the EU. This was stated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo on December 2.
According to him, during a telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, he expressed his desire to be a constructive politician, but as long as it is about protecting the state interests of Slovakia, he will be firm and in some issues unyielding.
As he noted, such topics include military aid to Ukraine, as well as the appearance of representatives of the European Commission and their statements that do not correspond to the consensus adopted at the level of the European Union and the European Council, writes Cas.
The day before, Kallas said that the possibility of European countries sending troops to Ukraine cannot be ruled out. She also suggested that in case of a ceasefire, Europe could "send peacekeeping forces" to monitor compliance. However, the final decision remains with Kiev.
The European Parliament approved the new composition of the European Commission headed by Ursula von der Leyen on November 27. Kaja Kallas was appointed head of European diplomacy. It was specified that the new Commission was supported by 370 out of 688 deputies, 282 people voted against, 36 abstained from voting.
The former head of the European Council Charles Michel handed over his powers to Costa on November 29. European Union leaders approved his candidacy for the post of European Council president in June this year.
