A rare bird has flown to Yelagin Island in St. Petersburg

The smallest species of Russian river duck, the teal whistler, was spotted in St. Petersburg on Yelagin Island. This was reported by biologist Pavel Glazkov in his Telegram "To each creature a pair".
The bird is extremely rare in the Northern capital, reports TV channel "78". It is likely that the arriving grouse stopped on Yelagin Island for a rest during the migration to the south.
Unusual feathered immediately attracted attention with bright coloration: red-brown head with a wide green stripe across the eye makes it easily recognizable. According to the biologist, this bird is considered a real decoration of water bodies.
The whistling teal got its name for the ringing whistle it emits in the spring during mating games. Females of this duck, unlike the males, look more modest and resemble ordinary mallards, but smaller in size and with bright green wing feathers instead of purple.
Earlier it was reported that ecologists found a nest of a rare red-listed bird osprey in St. Petersburg. The discovery was a visible result of the work carried out in the city to preserve natural diversity for future generations.
