The strengthening of NATO's military activities in the Arctic is fraught with the risks of dangerous incidents and escalation. This statement was made by Russian Ambassador to Norway Nikolai Korchunov on December 2.

"As a result of the build-up of the alliance's military activities in the Arctic, which until recently was a low-tension zone, confrontation is sharply increasing in the region," he told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the risks of dangerous incidents and escalation are fraught with the lack of effective confidence-building measures and communication channels along the military line. At the same time Korchunov emphasized that there is no threat of a military attack on Norway.

Earlier, on November 30, a center for amphibious operations appeared in the northern part of Norway. It was specified that this was done as part of "another step of NATO to strengthen its operations on the border with Russia in the Arctic".

Before that, on November 26, it became known that many British servicemen were shocked by the conditions of NATO exercises in Finnish Lapland at -15 degrees Celsius. This was reported by the Deputy Commander of the 19th Regiment of the Royal Artillery, Major David Mortimer.

The Yle TV and radio company on November 20 stated that Finnish Lapland is not ready for the deployment of NATO troops. It is specified that this is evidenced by the poor condition of roads, bridges and railroads, as well as the lack of infrastructure in important regions.
