Matvienko said she was ready for a telephone conversation with Vance

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko has promised to respond to a call from US Vice President-elect Senator JD Vance. She said this in an interview with the aif.ru website on December 2.
Matviyenko noted that she agrees with Vance on Ukraine and considers his statements "sensible and correct."
"My firm belief: if there is an opportunity to talk, we should talk. So yes, I will pick up the phone. And his call will not take me by surprise," Matvienko said.
She also pointed to the unlikely resumption of interparliamentary contacts between Moscow and Washington.
"This is the way it has developed. And there is no practice of holding any interparliamentary talks between Russia and the United States with the participation of the Vice President as Senate leader," Matviyenko emphasized.
Earlier, on November 27, Valentina Matviyenko said that Russian President Vladimir Putin 's statements and Russia's use of the latest weapons, including the Oreshnik medium-range missile, laid the potential for negotiations on Ukraine.
On November 13, it was reported that Ukraine fears that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will propose negotiations on Ohio Senator J.D. Vance's formula that would deny Ukraine a chance for NATO membership.
In October, Trump said he plans to resolve the Ukraine conflict immediately after his eventual election victory in November, without waiting for his inauguration in January. The Republican said he has good relations with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired May 20) and the Russian leader.
Putin emphasized that the statements of the American politician deserve attention. In addition, the head of state drew attention to the fact that Russia did not spoil relations with the USA and did not impose restrictions.
