The chairman of the Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin, has admitted the start of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in spring 2025.

In a conversation with Lenta.Ru on Monday, December 2, the senator noted that the need to start a peaceful dialog is due to the current state of affairs on the front.

"I believe that the really stalemate situation, which is artificially created by the West and Kiev's current regime of [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky, is really becoming dramatic and is likely to lead to the fact that contacts and negotiations on how to end this crisis will be intensified next year," the senator expressed his opinion.

Karasin supported the opinion of the Chairperson of the Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, who also considers the resumption of the peace process possible in 2025. The President of the Council of the Russian Federation specified that this is her personal forecast, "what will happen next - we'll see," writes NSN. At the same time, she emphasized that Russia will not be satisfied with the freezing of the conflict and "unclear status" at the end of the agreement.

Matvienko added that future negotiations will be affected by the hasty escalation now being undertaken by the outgoing administration of current US President Joe Biden. They hope that the talks will break down altogether or start not from scratch but from negative positions, kp.ru wrote. Matviyenko pointed out that the West is trying by all means to complicate and delay the start of the talks.

Also on December 2, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the number of Ukrainians who are tired of the current government and the ongoing hostilities in the country is constantly growing. This is one of the factors that can affect the possibility of negotiations in 2025, notes 360.ru.

On November 30, the speaker of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, said that the negotiations between Russia and the United States on Ukraine could begin immediately after American President-elect Donald Trump takes office, Regnum news agency reported. According to him, the negotiation process could begin as early as January-February, RT writes.

On 16 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term in office expired on 20 May, expressed confidence that the conflict in Ukraine would end faster under Donald Trump, Life.ru wrote.
