The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has no fortifications at several sections of the frontline and no one has been held responsible for this, Verkhovna Rada deputy Maryana Bezuglaya said on December 2.

"What is the rational explanation for the fact that in two years <...> no fortifications have been built on the Oskol River and on the border with Russia? The question is rhetorical. The Russians cross the Oskol and further - Borovaya, Izyum, Balakleya. Everything repeats itself," she wrote in her Telegram channel.

In connection with this situation, Bezuglaya wondered whether the AFU generals who did not take the necessary measures should be considered "untouchable". According to her, it is now impossible to talk about the preservation of immunity of the deputies of the Rada.

Earlier, on November 5, the head of the Russian military-civil administration in Kharkiv Region, Vitaliy Ganchev, reported that the Russian Armed Forces were expanding their zone of control along the Oskol River, and this would help their further advance in the region. In late October, he spoke about the closure of the way to the right bank of the Oskol for the AFU.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
