Turkey, Russia and Iran are planning to hold a meeting on Syria in the Astana format in the near future. This was announced by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan after talks in Ankara with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi on December 2.

He specified that the meeting would be held at the ministerial level.

"We will soon implement the Astana process again," TRT Haber quoted him as saying.

Fidan noted that it is very important for Syria that Turkey and Iran "sincerely express their views on the Syrian issue." In addition, he said that the authorities do not want "the continuation of the civil war, the destruction of cities with bombs."

Also, the Turkish foreign minister emphasized that he had already discussed this with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Earlier, on November 30, Lavrov held telephone talks with Fidan, during which he discussed the current situation in Syria. It was specified that the parties confirmed the need to coordinate joint actions to stabilize the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR). Then they also concluded that the provisions of the Astana format should be involved in this case.

Prior to that, on November 28, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the results of the meeting in the Astana format on Syria on the margins of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran and Turkey. It was noted that Lavrov, Araqchi and Fidan condemned Israel's arbitrary airstrikes on Syria, calling them a gross violation of international law.
