German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock has said that one of the goals of her visit to China is to launch the peace process on Ukraine. She made this statement during a press conference with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing on December 2.

"Today in Beijing I spoke in favor of a fair peace process precisely because we approach the issue from different points of view," she told reporters.

Meanwhile, in her Dec. 1 statement before her visit to Beijing, Berbok accused China of supporting Russian Federation, which she said poses a threat to Europe. She emphasized that cooperation between China and Russia is contrary to European interests.

Earlier, on November 26, it was reported that German authorities were ready to transfer two more Iris-T air defense systems to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). On November 18, Berbock said that the European Union (EU) may impose sanctions against China and Iran for military cooperation with Russia.

Prior to that, on November 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held phone talks for the first time since December 2022. The Kremlin said at the time that the conversation was held at the initiative of the German side, it was mainly devoted to Ukraine. Scholz, in turn, indicated on November 18 that his talks with the Russian leader were an important step toward resolving the Ukrainian conflict.

On 28 November, Putin said during a press conference following his state visit to Kazakhstan that Russia was ready for negotiations on Ukraine on the same terms. The head of state drew attention to the fact that there are no preconditions for the start of dialog now, but there are conditions for peace.

The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine was held in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
