Peskov said the dollar has lost its attractiveness for a number of countries

The US dollar is losing its attractiveness for many countries, and Washington will not be able to prevent this process with pressure, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on December 2.
"The dollar is beginning to lose its attractiveness as a reserve currency for a number of countries. This is such a process of erosion of the dollar's attractiveness. It is really underway and is gaining strength," he said, commenting on US President-elect Donald Trump's threat to respond with duties if the BRICS currency is created.
Peskov noted that more and more countries are starting to switch to the use of national currencies in foreign economic activity and not all of them are BRICS members.
According to his forecast, if the U.S. tries to force states to use the dollar, it can only further strengthen this trend.
Earlier, on November 30, Trump said that Washington would impose a 100% duty on goods from BRICS states if they created their own currency. He demanded that they stop trying to replace the dollar or "say goodbye to sales" in the US. The head of the Federation Council's commission on information policy Alexei Pushkov called Trump's threat unrealizable.
Before that, on November 6, Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin noted that the BRICS states will actively use national currencies in settlements.
Trump has repeatedly expressed his intentions to fight for the preservation of the status of the dollar before. In September, he also promised voters to impose 100 percent duties on goods from those countries that would reject the U.S. currency, and in March he said that de-dollarization would be a serious loss for the United States.
