Modern motor oils can be used in engines manufactured in the last century. Roman Sokuev, head of the technical expertise center of Sintec Lubricants, told about it, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports on December 2.

The API (American Petroleum Institute) and JASO (Japan Automotive Standard Organization) classifications stipulate that each subsequent performance category of motor oil can be used in engines of previous generations. In other words, when new properties are added, all previous characteristics are retained, the expert explained.

According to Sokuyev, modern oils have more effective detergent-dispersing additives and can dissolve in their volume various deposits that can accumulate in the engine. When buying an old car or after a long time since the last oil change, the specialist recommended draining the old oil and pouring in new oil.

Earlier in the day it was reported that mandatory marking in the system "Honest Mark" for a number of new products, including lubricants and special automotive fluids, will begin on September 1, 2025.

On November 27, auto expert Alexander Smith dispelled myths about rapidly rusting Chinese cars. According to him, modern cars of brands from China, contrary to a common misconception, do not rot in the first year and do not "blossom with bugs" from a small chip.
