All roads in the Russian Federation proposed to give their own names

The Russian Ministry of Transport has proposed to give all Russian roads their own names. The corresponding draft law was published on the federal portal of draft regulatory legal acts, Kommersant reported on December 1.

Now only federal highways have unique names - for example, M-8 "Kholmogory" and M-12 "Vostok". The department proposes to oblige regional and local authorities, as well as private individuals, to assign them to all their roads.

It is proposed to give highway names consisting of the names of connecting settlements. The draft amendments also state that it is allowed to use names of geographical objects and references to historical events, to take into account national traditions and peculiarities of the respective localities.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, Russia now has 1.58 million kilometers of highways. Of these, 1 million kilometers are local and 502 thousand kilometers are regional. Many regional highways have names - for example, Moscow - Egoryevsk - Tuma - Kasimov (unofficial name of the Egoryevsk highway near Moscow).

According to the interlocutors of the publication, the innovation may be useful in case of road accidents - it will speed up the arrival of help in situations where the participants of the accident do not know where they are.

Since October 28, the speed limit on the M-11 highway from Moscow to St. Petersburg has been reduced to 110 km / h, and on the section of the M-4 in the Tula region from 296th km to 322nd km (on the bypass of the city of Efremov) - to 90 km / h.
