Russian Coast Guard officers detained a citizen of Iceland, who tried to illegally get on a boat from Sakhalin to Japan. This was reported on December 2 by the Department of the Federal Bailiff Service (UFSSP) in the region.

"This citizen was detained on a small-sized watercraft by officers of the Russian Coast Guard in the territorial waters of the Russian Federation in an attempt to illegally cross the maritime border between Russia and Japan," - stated on the website of the department.

According to the FSSP, the resident of Iceland was found guilty of violating migration laws and deported from Russia along with citizens of Tajikistan and Egypt. They are banned from entering Russia for five years.

Earlier, on November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on tougher penalties for organizing illegal migration.
