In the town of Elmshorn (Schleswig-Holstein) in northern Germany, a 17-year-old teenager was detained on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack on Christmas Eve. This was reported by the newspaper Bild on December 1.

The suspect intended to drive a truck into the crowd before Christmas and took driving lessons especially for this purpose.

He was also a member of chat rooms associated with IS (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) and communicated with Islamists from the United States, Iraq and Morocco. The prosecutor's office is investigating the fact of preparation for a terrorist attack.

Earlier, on November 28, in Germany, in the district of Mainz-Bingen, the criminal inspection arrested a minor on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act against the state. According to investigators, the alleged offender planned to carry out an attack with an improvised explosive device "out of Islamist motives."

In late October, Berlin police found explosives in a bag left by an unknown man in the subway. The bag with the explosive substance was thrown by its owner when he escaped from police officers who were trying to search the man at the Neukölln subway station. Experts later determined that the escapee intended to carry a bottle of explosives into the subway, which is often used by Islamic radicals to commit terrorist acts. German sappers detonated the substance in a specially prepared place.
