More than 500 new 2022 cars remain unsold

By the end of 2024, car dealers in Russia will have mostly Korean and European brands left in their warehouses, with some cars not sold for about two years, Izvestia found out. About 60 Korean cars and about 170 European cars can be bought two years old, with about 140 of them costing more than 7 million rubles. Less than 150 of Chinese cars are "stale". In some cases, there are new cars on sale, which were released four years ago.
So, at the end of 2024 dealers ask 2.6 million for Kia Seltos 2022, although last year it cost 2.3 million, but in 2022 it would have cost 1.8 million. And Kia Cerato in Luxe configuration 2022 without discounts costs almost 3 million in the Kia Rolf car dealership, according to the car sales aggregator "Auto.ru". A similar car last year would have cost 2.3 million rubles, and at the time of release in 2022 - 1.6 million, "Izvestia" found out.
Experts link the emergence of surplus Chinese cars this year with the focus of buyers' attention in 2023 on Korean and European brands. Currently, there is a serious increase in interest in Chinese manufacturers, notes auto expert Yulia Miloslavskaya.
"For the buyer it is important that the car has a year of release 2022, and soon it will be 2025. Dealers have stopped making weighty discounts on such cars and just leave them in warehouses to sell them after a while. In the place of dealers should not worry that such cars will be idle for a long time. Because the increase in the utilization fee and other barrier measures will sooner or later force buyers to go to them," said auto expert Ivan Volin.
