It would be possible to reduce the number of lessons per day in schools in order to reduce the load on schoolchildren without compromising the quality of knowledge. This was stated on December 1 by First Deputy Head of the State Duma (GD) Committee on Education Yana Lantratova (Just Russia - For Truth).

She noted that the main problem with the pedagogical process is that the program "is often focused on academic achievement, forgetting about the physical and emotional well-being of students." Because of this, students experience chronic fatigue, stress and health problems.

"To address this problem, we need to rethink approaches to education. First, optimize curricula so that they take into account the age characteristics of children and their physiological needs. For example, reducing the number of lessons per day can reduce the load without compromising the quality of knowledge," TASS quoted Lantratova as saying.

The parliamentarian added that schools should pay more attention to extracurricular activities that help develop children's creative abilities and their social adaptation in society. For this purpose, it is important to create conditions for sports, art, encourage pupils to participate in various circles and sections.

"It is also worth reconsidering the approach to homework. They should be aimed at consolidating the material, rather than mechanically performing a large amount of work. It is also necessary to take into account the individual characteristics of each student, providing a choice of topics and formats of assignments," - emphasized Lantratova.

Earlier, on November 20, the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin during the plenary session instructed the Committee on Education to organize a discussion of the high load in Russian schools. It is noted that the load on high school students exceeds sanitary and epidemic norms by 30%. According to Volodin, this affects the condition of children and at the same time "nothing good."

After, November 25, Volodin added that the State Duma receives many appeals from parents because of the excessive load on schoolchildren. He noted that on average, schoolchildren spend 8-10 hours a day on study and this, according to parents, is excessive.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on November 19 that improving the quality of education in the country and reducing the burden on teachers remain among the main tasks.
