Russian parachutists set a new world record for jumping distance

Russian parachutists have set a new world record for the range of flight, having overcome more than 80 kilometers during tests of the parachute system of special purpose "Dalnolet". This was reported by the press service of Rostec State Corporation on December 1.
"The special purpose parachute system "Dalnolet", developed by Rostec State Corporation, has passed special flight tests, during which specialists of the Chkalov State Flight Test Center of the Russian Defense Ministry set an absolute record of flight range. The test parachutists landed from a height of 10 thousand meters and covered a distance of more than 80 km. No one in the world has ever parachuted to such a distance before," the state corporation said in a statement on its website.
Rostec specified that the landing from the An-72 airplane took place at a speed of 350 km/h at a temperature of -57 degrees Celsius.
According to the developers, the "Dalnolet" system is designed for training and combat jumps, which can be performed with equipment or cargo. It has already passed state tests and received the right for serial production.
Initial characteristics assumed use in landing from heights of up to 8,000 meters, but current tests have allowed to increase the figure. According to Oleg Yevtushenko, executive director of Rostec, specialists of the state corporation purposefully put into the products the possibility of such expansion of characteristics.
It is noted that thus "Dalnolet" became the world's first parachute system, which can be used for jumps from the stratosphere with overcoming ultra-long distances.
Earlier, on November 29, Russian parachutists with new systems "Tandem-400" for the first time in the world left the plane from the stratosphere. As Rostec pointed out at the time, the peculiarity of the jump was the fact that the opening of the parachutes occurred almost under the tail of the aircraft at an altitude of 10,000 meters. The landing was recorded in the Russian Book of Records.
