British political analyst Anatol Lieven on 30 November in an article on the UnHerd portal reported on three key steps that should be taken for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the expert, the ban on long-range missiles that can strike deep into Russia is paramount, but on the condition that the United States and NATO provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with the strongest possible weapons and assistance in strengthening defensive lines.

Lieven also said that some Western sanctions against Russia should be suspended with the formal stipulation that if the conflict resumes, the restrictions will be valid again. The political scientist referred to such restrictions as a ban on gas imports and Russia's exclusion from the SWIFT banking system.

As the political analyst noted, any peace agreement should be officially approved by the UN and the BRICS countries, as they are interested in resolving the conflict.

Earlier in the day, Gregor Gisi, a member of the Bundestag (German parliament) from the Left Party group, said that the West should offer Russia a truce with the suspension of arms supplies to Kiev. He is convinced that Ukraine will not be able to preserve its territorial integrity by armed means without risking an inevitable escalation.

Earlier, on November 29, the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) pointed to NATO's desire to freeze the conflict in Ukraine in order to restore the AFU. It is noted that the West plans to use the temporary freezing of the conflict to restore the Ukrainian army and prepare for a future offensive.

Before that, on November 20, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that freezing the conflict in Ukraine is not suitable for Russia. At the same time, he noted that head of state Vladimir Putin was ready for contacts and negotiations.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
