On November 30, Colonel-General Alexei Vorobyov, Deputy Director of the Rosgvardia, presented awards to wrestlers from the department's elite educational institutions who had won sambo competitions.

The tournament, held in Moscow on the basis of the Sambo-70 sports complex, was attended by pupils of the Moscow and Perm Presidential Cadet Schools. In total there were about 900 sambo wrestlers under the age of 16 from 35 subjects of Russia.

"Boys are fighting on the mat - they are future servicemen, police officers of the Rosgvardiya. Therefore, we are very happy to be present here, at this landmark Sambo-70 school with great traditions," Vorobyov said.

The deputy director of the department emphasized that this sport, whose main principles are camaraderie and fair competition, is being actively developed in the Rosguard.

"Sambo is first of all a state, our national sport, which helps not only in everyday life, but also, let's say, in operational life. Therefore, it is encouraging that the cadets are also developing this direction," commented Nikita Kletskov, four-time world sambo champion, seven-time champion of Russia, Honored Master of Sports of the Russian Federation.

November 16 was celebrated in Russia as Sambo Day, a martial art form that was born 86 years ago and has become one of the most popular in the country. The Russian sambo school has brought up many champions, more than 300 thousand people practicing this kind of martial arts in Russia alone.
