In case the BRICS countries decide to create their own new currency, Washington will impose a duty of 100% for goods from the states belonging to this association. This was stated by US President-elect Donald Trump on his page in Truth Social on Saturday, November 30.

"The idea that the BRICS countries are trying to move away from the dollar while we stand by and watch should no longer exist. We demand a commitment from these countries that they will not create a new BRICS currency or support any other currency to replace the mighty U.S. dollar, or they will face 100 percent duties and should expect to say goodbye to sales to the wonderful U.S. economy," Trump wrote.

According to him, any state that intends to try to create a substitute for the dollar in the global economy will no longer be able to interact with the United States in this area.

Earlier, on November 17, Bundestag deputy Rainer Rothfuss told Izvestia that BRICS could become an alternative to the European Union (EU) for Germany. The politician also spoke about the need to create a BRICS currency. The dollar will still play an important role in the international financial system, but the BRICS currency will also be very much in demand, Rothfuss pointed out.

Before that, on November 6, Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin noted that the BRICS states will actively use national currencies in settlements.

BRICS is an interstate association of countries. The last summit at the level of heads of its member states was held in Kazan in October 2024.
