US President-elect Donald Trump may be dreaming of receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed on November 30 by British politician Lord Michael Ashcroft.

"Trump may relish this task (ending the conflict in Ukraine. - Ed.) for more personal reasons: could it be that deep in his mind he thinks that such a deal would win him a Nobel Peace Prize - comparable to the achievement of [former US President] Barack Obama, but with a truly award-worthy achievement?" - he wrote in an article for Express.

At the same time, the politician noted that the task of establishing peace in Ukraine may be more difficult for Trump than he imagines. According to him, in the case of the Ukrainian conflict, a long-term agreement is needed that will satisfy both sides.

Earlier, on November 27, Trump's appointee to the post of special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, expressed his readiness to establish peace in the Ukrainian conflict by force. He added that he was ready to show the dedication and commitment worthy of his new post. At the same time, Der Spiegel magazine reported that Kellogg in his new position will face an almost impossible mission and he is unlikely to be able to cope with it. The publication noted that the US president-elect's promises about a quick settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, made during the election campaign, were very pompous.

Before that, on November 27, CNN reported that Trump's future national security adviser Mike Waltz is looking for optimal ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. In particular, the official says that it is necessary to restore peace and get ahead of the escalation ladder, not just react to it. The TV channel suggests that the Republican administration will try to establish a ceasefire in the Ukrainian crisis in order to freeze it for the duration of the negotiations.

Trump, for his part, speaking at the White House for the first time since winning the election on Nov. 15, promised to "work very hard" to end the Ukrainian conflict. He emphasized that it is necessary to prevent the number of victims of the crisis from growing.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
