German ambassador to Moscow gives details of Scholz's conversation with Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has emphasized in his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin that it is time to abandon "the rigid logic of the military conflict" in the actions in Ukraine and start direct negotiations between the parties. German Ambassador to Moscow Alexander Lambsdorff said on November 30.
"As the federal government has repeatedly emphasized, only direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine can lead to a just and strong peace. After all, the question of what peace means for the whole of Europe is being decided in Ukraine," RBC quoted the diplomat as saying.
At the same time, the ambassador specified that both before and after the conversation with Putin, Scholz also called Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20).
"Both before and after this conversation, the Federal Chancellor called Ukrainian President Zelensky. As I said, any peace without the consent of the Ukrainians is impossible," Lambsdorff added.
Earlier, on November 29, Zelensky reported about Scholz's call to him, during which the latter informed him about the details of his conversation with Putin. He also added that he had discussed with the German chancellor Germany's military support for Kiev, primarily the supply of air defense systems and ammunition for them.
Prior to that, on November 15, Putin and Scholz held phone talks for the first time since December 2, 2022. The Kremlin said at the time that the conversation took place at the initiative of the German side. Later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the fact of dialog between Putin and Scholz positive. The Russian leader, commenting on the conversation with the chancellor, noted on November 28 that the talks were mainly devoted to Ukraine.
Scholz, in turn, on November 18 indicated that his talks with the Russian leader were an important step for the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. The chancellor noted that it is necessary to both talk and act, and the European Union (EU) countries should convey their position to the Russian Federation.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
