American billionaire Ilon Musk on Saturday, November 30, criticized the number of convictions in the UK for illegal speech on the Internet.

"Terrible," he wrote on his X (former Twitter) page, commenting on the information that in 2016 there were 1,696 convictions in the kingdom for online speech.

In addition to the problem with freedom of speech in the kingdom, which was previously noted by the Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the UK is experiencing serious prison overcrowding. Thus, in early November, thousands of prisoners released early under the new scheme were re-arrested for violating release conditions. According to data from the end of October, more than 12.5 thousand people in England and Wales were re-arrested, which is 5% more than for the whole of last year.

As the British Ministry of Justice noted, the new government appointed this summer "inherited" a crisis in the justice system. In these circumstances, the authorities called the program of early release of some convicts forced, and also admitted that they can no longer keep dangerous criminals in prison and protect society.
