The movement of troops or weapons from European countries through Switzerland would be a gross violation of the country's neutrality. Mauro Poggia, a senator from the largest party in the Swiss parliament, the Democratic Union of the Center, said on November 30.

"The passage of European weapons and troops through the territory of Switzerland would be a flagrant violation of neutrality, and the Parliament will never agree to this," he told RIA Novosti.

At the same time, the politician expressed the opinion that from the amendments to the Swiss law on arms exports does not necessarily follow a violation of the same principle, but called the relaxation of these norms questionable.

According to Poggia, in this case, it should be clarified whether Swiss weapons sold to a country should be considered Swiss weapons after five or more years.

Earlier, on November 23, the Democratic Union of the Center opposed the new aid to Ukraine. Representatives of the bloc called such expenditures a waste, and also spoke in favor of toughening the conditions for granting Ukrainians refugee status.

Before that, on August 21, the Swiss Federal Council (government) requested that Switzerland join the EU project "Military Mobility" aimed at facilitating the movement of troops and military equipment across Europe. The country's President Viola Amherd was then accused of undermining neutrality in connection with the desire to join the so-called military Schengen. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova assessed Bern's move in a similar way.
