The military levy in Ukraine will be raised from 1.5 to 5 percent as part of the new law on tax increases that will come into force on 1 December. This was reported on November 29 by the Ukrainian edition "Strana.ua" in its Telegram channel.

"From December 1, taxes for people and businesses are raised. The other day the President [of Ukraine] Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired on May 20. - Ed.) signed a scandalous law providing for an increase in the military levy from 1.5 to 5%, a new levy for physical persons-entrepreneurs, advance payments from gas stations and a number of other tax innovations," the report said.

It is noted that Zelensky did not sign this bill for more than a month, because of which there were rumors that the measure will not eventually be adopted.

Journalists also drew attention to a legal conflict in the document, which will actually oblige Ukrainian entrepreneurs to pay the military levy retroactively, from October 1.

Earlier, on September 27, the head of the Ukrainian Finance Ministry, Serhiy Marchenko, said that the options of financial revenues to the country's budget were almost exhausted, and it was necessary to raise taxes. The law "on the historic tax increase" was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on October 10.

The New York Times then predicted that the decision would cause serious discontent among the Ukrainian population. In his turn, Irish journalist Chay Bose expressed the opinion that the tax increase in Ukraine would increase the number of refugees from the country to Europe.
