Kurenkov warned of the danger of avalanches in mountainous areas in winter period


In the cold season, especially in winter, avalanche danger increases significantly in mountainous areas, head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry Alexander Kurenkov said on November 30.
As the Minister noted, the danger of avalanches affects dozens of regions, including mountainous areas of the Far East, North Caucasus, Siberia and Murmansk region.
As noted by representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Telegram-channel, in the Magadan region, the regime of increased avalanche danger was introduced on November 18. The agency issued a similar warning in the mountainous regions of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic (KCR), where the safety of ski resorts is monitored by rescuers, instructors and guides.
"In Kabardino-Balkaria, the most avalanche-prone areas are Elbrusie, the upper reaches of the Baksan River valley, the Azau glades, Cheget and Bolshiye narzany. Efficiency and coherence of actions during search and rescue operations specialists of the Russian Emergencies Ministry are honing in the exercises," the ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, on October 19, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that a tourist from Udmurtia, who was climbing Elbrus, required evacuation from a height of 5,200 meters.
