France called Iran's nuclear weapons emergence a critical threat

The head of the French foreign intelligence service (DGSE), Nicolas Lerner, said that Iran's proliferation of nuclear weapons will become a serious threat in the coming months. Reuters reported on November 29.
"Our services are working side by side to counter what is undoubtedly one of the threats, if not the most serious threat, in the coming months - the possible proliferation of nuclear weapons in Iran," Lerner said at the British Embassy in Paris.
He also noted that intelligence will be crucial to allow the French authorities to make the right decisions and determine the right strategies.
British intelligence official and head of MI6 (Britain's Foreign Office Secret Intelligence Service) Richard Moore said Iran's nuclear ambitions continue to threaten "all of us, especially France and Britain's friends in the Gulf region."
Earlier, on November 24, the governments of the US, Britain, France and Germany supported the IAEA resolution against Iran. It is specified that the resolution accused Iran of failing to provide the IAEA with information on the use of nuclear materials. The countries also expressed "serious concern" about Iran's decision to launch new centrifuges in response to the resolution.
On November 20, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said Iran had begun preparations to stop building up its stockpile of uranium enriched to 60%. He specified that the IAEA and Tehran continue to discuss this issue.
Earlier on November 17, Iran and European countries plan to resume talks on returning to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program, compliance with which was impossible after then-US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018.
