The United Kingdom values its experience in the issue of covert operations and is currently retaining it to help the Ukrainian authorities in their confrontation with Russia. The head of the British intelligence agency MI6, Richard Moore, admitted as much on Friday, November 29.

"After the [Second World] War, the Office of Special Operations merged with the Secret Intelligence Service. We cherish our legacy of covert action, which we still retain today as we help Ukraine confront Russia in the conflict," he said during a speech at the British Embassy in Paris, broadcast on The Sun's YouTube channel.

As Moore noted, London should not allow Ukraine to lose in the conflict, as in this case, according to him, transatlantic security would allegedly be jeopardized.

"The cost of supporting Ukraine is well known, but the price of withdrawing that support will be infinitely higher," said the head of British intelligence.

Before that, on October 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the information circulating in Western media that Russian intelligence allegedly intends to "wreak havoc" in the UK is nonsense. He noted that what is happening now on the streets of some European cities is the result of the internal politics of these states themselves. Putin added that people are afraid of escalation in various areas of world conflicts, citing the Middle East and Ukraine as examples.

Later, in late November, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Britain plays a key role in the anti-Russian hybrid war. Against this background, the diplomat called London a "gnarled British empire." She also recalled the talks between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Joe Biden, specifying that the conversation was proof that London was supporting Ukraine.

In addition, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said on November 26 that Wilkes Edward Pryor, an employee of the British embassy in Moscow, had been conducting intelligence and subversive work threatening the country's security. The British diplomat has been stripped of his accreditation and will be expelled from the Russian Federation to his home country. The British ambassador to the Russian capital, Nigel Casey, who was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, was strongly protested over the information revealed.

Back in February, Zakharova also noted in a conversation with Izvestiya that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and other intelligence agencies of the United States and Britain had been working long before 2022 to place their "strongholds" in Ukraine and train spies for Kiev.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
