On Friday and the next weekend, November 30 and December 1, the State Automobile Inspectorate will conduct mass and continuous checks in Russia's regions, aimed at curbing drunk driving. Regional departments of the State Automobile Inspectorate have announced about the upcoming raids.

Preventive measures will be held in Kirov, Smolensk, Magadan, Ryazan, Ulyanovsk, Penza and Lipetsk regions, as well as in the Republic of Altai and other regions of the country.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Automobile Inspectorate reminds drivers of the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who sat behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are regularly carried out by traffic inspectors on weekends.

"The practice of solid checks is an effective measure to prevent and suppress cases of drunk driving. The State Automobile Inspectorate always informs about such raids in advance, so that drivers refuse to travel after drinking alcohol. At the same time, reducing the number of those who still allow themselves to drive drunk depends largely on other road users and citizens who have witnessed drunk driving. If you notice such a driver behaving inadequately and creating dangerous situations on the road, do not remain indifferent - report it to the police. Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate are ready to take all necessary measures to respond to such reports," said Deputy Head of the Department of Propaganda of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Police Colonel Anton Belan.

He reminded that, according to the current legislation, for driving a vehicle in a state of intoxication, as well as for refusal to undergo medical examination the driver faces deprivation of license for a period of one and a half to two years, as well as a fine of 30 thousand rubles.

"If the driver, previously deprived of his license, drives a vehicle in a state of intoxication or refuses a medical examination, he faces criminal liability in the form of a fine of 200-400 thousand rubles, up to 480 hours of compulsory labor or up to two years of forced labor," - said in conversation with "Izvestia" Belan.

On the eve it became known that the amendments providing for an increase in fines for traffic violations, came to the State Duma. As reported "Vedomosti", fines for violation of a number of traffic rules may increase in Russia from January 1, 2025.
