The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation opposed the spending of maternity capital on domestic cars

The Russian Finance Ministry has not supported the idea of large families buying domestic cars using maternity capital funds. This was reported on November 29 by "Kommersant" with reference to the ministry's response to deputies Sergei Mironov and Yana Lantratova ("Fair Russia - For Truth").

The parliamentarians proposed to allow spending 450 thousand rubles from the matkapital for the purchase of Russian cars after the birth of the third child. Since 2019, such an amount can be invested by parents with many children to repay the mortgage. The Ministry of Finance explained that the implementation of this idea "will require significant additional expenditures <...> the sources of coverage of which have not been determined".

At the same time, the government will continue targeted payments to improve housing conditions until at least 2030, the ministry said. From the budget for the entire period of implementation of the measure has already provided 329 billion rubles, including 48.5 billion rubles in 2024.

It is noted that in early 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin opposed the idea of buying cars for the matkapital. According to the head of state, if the authorities allow spending the family capital "in the most diverse directions", it does not guarantee the protection of children's interests.

Two years ago, the head of AvtoVAZ Maxim Sokolov spoke in favor of using maternity capital to buy the first car. This, according to Sokolov, would help to increase the financial security of young families, as well as car sales.

The press service of the Ministry of Labor reported on October 28 that Russia plans to allocate about 2.7 trillion rubles more to extend the maternity capital program until 2030. The Ministry explained that this will allow to provide 3.2 million families with matkapital. According to the data as of September 1 of this year, 14.3 million certificates were issued in Russia since the maternity capital started in 2007 to receive payments. At the moment the allowance for the first child is Br630.4 thousand, for the second - Br833 thousand. Now the action of the program is calculated till 2026.
