Stupino resident who organized gas explosion sentenced to life imprisonment


The Moscow regional court has sentenced Alexei Zarubin, who set off a gas explosion in a residential building in Stupino that killed six people, to life imprisonment in a special regime penal colony. This is reported by the correspondent of "Izvestia".
In addition, Zarubin is obliged to pay a total of about 363 million rubles on court claims.
In April 2022, there was a gas explosion in a five-story house in Stupino near Moscow, apartments from the second to the fifth floor were destroyed. Six people died, including Zarubin's wife and two children, 19 tenants were injured.
In July 2023, the investigation was completed and concluded that on the night before the tragedy, the man argued with his wife, closed the window, plugged the hood with a child's blanket, opened all the taps on the gas stove, then flicked a lighter and ignited the kitchen.
Zarubin was found to be addicted to psychoactive substances. He was charged with murder in a generally dangerous way, attempted murder and willful destruction of property under paragraphs "a", "c", "e" of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, part 3 of article 30, paragraphs "a", "e" of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, part 2 of article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
