In bad weather, at night and due to severe fatigue, motorists' eyesight is subjected to increased strain. At the same time, the safety of the driver and others depends on its quality. On November 30, specialists from SberAuto, Sber Eapteca and World Vision ophthalmology clinic told Izvestia about how to keep eyes healthy while driving.

Tired eyes syndrome in drivers

Prolonged strain on the eyes causes fatigue, known as tired eye syndrome in drivers. According to Zarina Kurachinova, ophthalmologist, chief physician of World Vision Clinic, it differs little from the usual eye fatigue syndrome and also manifests itself in the form of dryness, redness, eye pain, temporary loss of visual clarity.

"To effectively protect your vision and to buy unpleasant consequences in time, do not forget to give your eyes regular rest. It is important to take a break every one or two hours and look in the distance to reduce the strain on your eyes. Relax eye muscles and relieve the tension of central vision will also help exercise "triangle": look at the tip of the nose, then move your gaze to a point at a distance of 6-8 meters and return to the nose again. It is necessary to train not only direct vision, but also peripheral vision - use it to observe the situation on the road and when quickly changing the direction of the view", - advised the expert.

The doctor also reminded about the need to use drops for dry eyes, especially during long trips on the highway or in hot weather, and sunglasses to protect from the sun and sun glare.

Vision at night and in bad weather

According to Kurachinova, the greatest threat to a motorist's vision is rain and fog, which further increase the strain on the eyes. In such conditions it is important to keep the windshield clean: quality windshield wipers will help to improve visibility.

Another peculiarity of the cold season is the short daylight hours. According to the expert, at night and at dusk vision deteriorates due to insufficient illumination: contrast decreases, perception of objects on the road changes.

To improve safety on the road at night it is necessary to adjust the headlights to ensure good visibility and at the same time do not blind other drivers, and you can use anti-glare glasses, which will improve contrast, said the doctor.

Maintaining eye health

As specified by the pharmacist and head of the pharmacy "Sber Eapteka" Natalia Bolotova, in addition to support eye health will help vitamins A, C, B vitamins and omega-3.

According to her, vitamin A plays a major role in maintaining the health of the retina, vitamin C protects the eyes from excessive exposure to ultraviolet light and supports blood circulation of the organs of vision, B vitamins strengthen the nervous system tissues of the optic nerve, and omega-3 helps prevent dry eye syndrome. At the same time, the expert added, dietary supplements alone are not enough - it is necessary to maintain a balanced diet, including vitamin- and mineral-rich foods to maintain good vision for many years.

Choosing the right car

SberAuto experts advised people with farsightedness, who find it difficult to focus on close objects, to choose a car equipped with a projection display on the windshield. This technology allows you to get the information you need without having to look away from the road.

If you have astigmatism, you should choose cars with bright LED headlights that provide even light and improved visibility. Antireflective coating of glasses will help to cope with reflections and light effects that can create discomfort, emphasized the experts of the service.

In case of diagnosed glaucoma, due to which the field of vision narrows and there is an effect of "tunnel vision", it is important to pay attention to cars equipped with round-view cameras and blind spot monitoring systems, experts noted. With cataracts, the most important thing is to reliably protect vision from glare. It is worth thinking about installing athermal film on the glass, you can also consider cars with auto-darkening mirror system. People with color blindness are recommended to study the possibility of adjusting the color palette of the display to their perception in a particular car.

Earlier, on November 20, ophthalmologist, ophthalmic surgeon of JSC "Medicine" (clinic of academician Roitberg) Irakli Behoroshvili told "Izvestia" about the symptoms of astigmatism. According to him, they may include blurred or distorted vision at different distances, difficulty focusing, and headaches, especially after long periods of reading or working on the computer. Many people also notice that their eyes tire much faster than usual, the specialist noted.
